Zumaya Ready to go?

Joel Zumaya has one of the fastest if not the fastest pitch in baseball. His arm has incredible power reaching pitches of up to 104 MPH clocked on radar guns both on the road and at home field Comerica Park.

Plagued with injuries for the past three years Zumaya has been inconsistent with speed, placement and success. Since 2006 his ERA has jumped from 1.94 over 62 games to 4.94 in 29 games.

There is no doubt that Zumaya can throw a ball quicker than you can blink but is it enough?

Its hard to say whether his hard throw will be enough for him even if he stays healthy. Back in in May of 2006 Zumaya throw a 104 MPH fastball to Ken Griffey Jr. resulting in a grand slam.

I've always been impressed with his arm and power but I've never thought it was enough. You need to have control of your arm, the ball and its location, something he's struggled with the past couple years. The deeper we get into spring training and the closer to opening day we will see what Joel Zumaya has to bring to the table, in hopes to jump start the Tigers bullpen.
