In the second game of the series against the Yankees, the Tigers threw Brad Penny, just 1-3 before the contest. Penny went six innings strong, giving up one unearned run on six hits and two walks. He also struck out a batter.
The Yankee's starter and 2009 Cy Young Award winner CC Sabathia went seven innings giving up four earned runs and ten hits.
The Tigers jumped ahead in the first inning with a pair of hits and a sac fly. Their lead remained 2-0 until the top of the fourth when the Yanks countered with a couple of base hits of their own, cutting the lead to 2-1.
In the fifth inning, after a Brandon Inge walk, Austin Jackson tripled to left field. A Scott Sizemore single brought him around to score.
New York's Mark Teixeira blasted a solo home run off of Mark Schlereth in the top of the eighth inning. However, that's all the damage that the Yankees would do, losing 4-2. Closer Jose Valverde gets the save while Penny received the W. The Tigers play the Yanks again Wednesday night and Thursday afternoon.
