DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has traded catcher Dusty Ryan to the San Diego Padres for a player to be named later or cash considerations.
Ryan saw action with the Tigers and Triple A Toledo during the 2009 season. He batted .154 (4x26) with four RBI in 12 games with the Tigers and batted .257 (52x202) with 10 home runs and 35 RBI in 63 games with the Mud Hens.

TIGERS AGREE TO TERMS ON TWO-YEAR DEAL WITH RAMON SANTIAGO

DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has agreed to terms on a two-year contract with infielder Ramon Santiago, thus avoiding arbitration.
Santiago batted .267 (70x262) with six doubles, two triples, seven home runs and 35 RBI in 93 games for the Tigers during the 2009 season. He established career highs with seven home runs and 35 RBI.
In 183 games with the Tigers since the start of the 2007 season, Santiago is hitting .274 (124x453) with 17 doubles, five triples, 11 home runs and 60 RBI.
With Santiago agreeing to terms, the Tigers now have 13 players on the club’s 40-man roster under contract for the 2010 season.

Mike Rojas returns as the organization’s minor league field coordinator for the 2010 season, while Kevin Bradshaw (infield coordinator), Toby Harrah (hitting coordinator), Jon Matlack (pitching coordinator), Brian Peterson (performance enhancement instructor), Gene Roof (outfield and baserunning coordinator) and Chris Walter (strength and conditioning coordinator) will all return in their respective positions. Andrew Graham has joined the organization as the catching coordinator, in addition to serving as a coach for the Gulf Coast League Tigers.
Dustin Campbell returns as the minor league medical coordinator in 2010, while Steve Chase will serve as the assistant strength and conditioning coordinator. Sharon Lockwood returns as coordinator of international player programs and Bob Frutchey will serve as the minor league clubhouse manager in Lakeland.

Tiger and the Tigers By Denny McLain

Let’s start with Tiger Woods.
Tiger Woods could have gotten really lucky if he had just watched the David Letterman show when Letterman went on the air and announced to the world that he was sleeping with numerous women who worked for him on his TV show on NBC.
Letterman's explanation was sensational! Except for the uproar of a few days, has been able to stay out of the fray, only because he went out front of the story before someone else came out with a version spun by others. Letterman was a superman with his act.
Woods is doing the only smart thing he can do right now. He is waiting on the “pictures”, and agreements to be drawn up to buy the silence of these women. He needs to burn these pictures and get these agreements in place.
But Woods on the other hand had two or three days to get ahead of this disaster that he has created. It’s now allegedly around six women or so, some of which are (allegedly) already being already paid.
But still, nothing from Tiger in the way of a press conference or a real serious interview with someone who can actually stand up to Tiger.

TIGERS COMPLETE THREE-TEAM DEAL WITH DIAMONDBACKS AND YANKEES
Scherzer, Schlereth Acquired from Arizona; Coke, Jackson Added from New York
DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced the club has acquired righthanded pitcher Max Scherzer and lefthanded pitcher Daniel Schlereth from the Arizona Diamondbacks and lefthanded pitcher Phil Coke and outfielder Austin Jackson from the New York Yankees. The Tigers have traded righthanded pitcher Edwin Jackson to the Diamondbacks, while outfielder Curtis Granderson has been traded to the Yankees. Additionally, the Yankees have traded righthanded pitcher Ian Kennedy to Arizona as part of the deal.
“We are thrilled to add four quality players to the Tigers organization today,” Tigers President, Chief Executive Officer and General Manager David Dombrowski said. “We feel this infusion of talent will help our major league club compete both in 2010 and for many years to come. We want to thank both Curtis and Edwin for all they have done for the Tigers organization and we wish them nothing but the best as they join their new clubs.”
Scherzer compiled a 9-11 record, 4.12 ERA (170.1IP/78ER) and 174 strikeouts in 30 starts for the Diamondbacks in 2009. He finished eighth in the National League with 9.19 strikeouts per nine innings this past season. A first-round selection by the Diamondbacks in 2006, Scherzer has posted a 3.86 ERA (226.1IP/97ER) and 240 strikeouts in 46 games (37 starts) at the major league level.
Schlereth recorded a 1.01 ERA (26.2IP/3ER), four saves and 39 strikeouts in 21 outings with Double A Mobile. He limited opponents to a .161 batting average against (14x87) during his stint with Mobile. Schlereth saw action in one game with Triple A Reno, in addition to 21 outings at the major league level with the Diamondbacks. He fanned 22 batters in 18.1 innings of work with Arizona, limiting opponents to a .221 batting average against (15x68). Schlereth was a first-round selection of the Diamondbacks in 2008 and he is the son of former NFL offensive lineman Mark Schlereth.
Coke spent the entire season at the major league level with the Yankees in 2009, compiling a 4-3 record, 4.50 ERA (60.0IP/30ER), two saves and 49 strikeouts in 71 appearances. He limited opponents to a .209 batting average against (44x211). Coke is 5-3 with a 3.74 ERA (74.2IP/31ER) in 84 outings in his major league career, holding opponents to a .199 batting average against (52x261).
Jackson batted .300 (151x504) with 67 runs scored, 23 doubles, nine triples, four home runs, 65 RBI and 24 stolen bases in 132 games with Triple A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in 2009. Entering the season as the top prospect in the Yankees organization by Baseball America, he was selected the International League Rookie of the Year after leading the league with nine triples. Baseball America tabbed him the best hitting prospect in the league during the season.
Granderson hit .249 (157x631) with 91 runs scored, 23 doubles, eight triples, 30 home runs, 71 RBI and 20 stolen bases in 160 games for the Tigers in 2009. He was named to the American League’s all-star squad for the first time in his career this past season.
Jackson compiled a 13-9 record and 3.62 ERA (214.0IP/86ER) in 33 starts for the Tigers this past season as he was selected to the American League’s all-star squad for the first time in his career.
Additionally, the Tigers today designated the contracts of righthanded pitcher Freddy Dolsi and catcher Dusty Ryan for assignment. Dolsi finished 4-3 with a 3.83 ERA (51.2IP/22ER) and 10 saves in 39 appearances with Triple A Toledo in 2009. Ryan batted .257 (52x202) with 10 home runs and 35 RBI in 63 games with the Mud Hens.

Detroit Tigers- Let's talk about the "BIG" Trades Today, Ok?

First, I hear people bitching about breaking up the 20 year old players. All these guys had the same percentages this year and blew it in the worst division in maybe the last 30 yrs.
Grandy hit 30 home runs and we still didn't make the playoffs! Duh? It can't be worse can it? No playoffs, is no playoffs with or without Grandy or Jackson?
Is Grandy an All Star? Please! That's almost as bad as Inge. The reality is Grandy is a .249 hitter. Polanco was the killer loss!
Dombrowski has his Illitch marching orders: "Get rid of $20 million".
Now, if they could just dump Inge they have a good start on dumping that $20 million. Ask yourself this. Where could Inge play, which club could he play for hitting a steady .230; Toledo?
I don't think anyone is untouchable except maybe "Mr.100 Pitch", Porcello. Everybody just wants to see him pitch out of a 7th or 8th inning jam. Do you think we ever will?
I will tell you one other fact,: if you give me Bonderman and Willis for six weeks, I bet I can make them better than .500 pitchers. A lot better than the horrible debacles they have been! Why doesn't the Illitch minions see the problems with these two car crashes?
