DETROIT – The Detroit Tigers today announced that shortstop Gustavo Nunez has been returned to the Tigers organization by Arizona as the Diamondbacks have outrighted his contract to Triple A Toledo.

TIGERS QUINTIN BERRY EARNS AWARD

BERRY TO RECEIVE SECOND ANNUAL TENTH MAN AWARD FROM THE DETROIT BASEBALL SOCIETY

DETROIT – Quintin Berry, whose hitting, baserunning, and hands-clapping spirit made him an important and crowd-pleasing presence for the Tigers in 2012, has been named winner of the second Tenth Man Award by the Detroit Baseball Society.

Berry will be honored at the 12th annual Detroit Baseball Dinner, Jan. 26 at The Townsend Hotel in Birmingham.

Berry, 28, had never played in the majors until the Tigers brought him to Detroit in May after signing him to a minor league contract in November of 2011.

He was instant energy for the Tigers, batting .333 in May, and .293 in June, while stealing 12 bases and scoring 24 runs. Berry played all three outfield positions and was a key two-way player as manager Jim Leyland faced injuries to outfielders Austin Jackson and Andy Dirks.

Berry finished the 2012 season with a .258 batting average, 10 doubles, six triples, two home runs, 29 RBI and 21 stolen bases.

The Tenth Man Award was conceived by the Detroit Baseball Society as a means for honoring players who, while not necessarily lineup regulars, made significant contributions to the Tigers during the past season.

The inaugural Tenth Man Award winner was Don Kelly in 2011.
