DETROIT – Tonight’s scheduled game against the Kansas City Royals at Comerica Park has been postponed due to rain and impending rain. The game will be made up on Monday, September 24 at 7:05 p.m.

All paid tickets for tonight’s game will be honored for the game on September 24, no ticket exchange is necessary.

TIGERS HOST KC AND WHITE SOX THIS WEEK.

TIGERS TO HOST KANSAS CITY ROYALS AND THE CENTRAL DIVISION RIVAL CHICAGO WHITE SOX DURING SIX-GAME HOMESTAND AT COMERICA PARK SIX-GAME HOMESTAND.

DETROIT – The Tigers return home from their weekend road trip to begin a six-game homestand at Comerica Park. The Kansas City Royals (April 30-May 2) and the Chicago White Sox (May 4-6) will both make their first trips of the season to Detroit. Monday and Tuesday’s games against the Royals will begin at 7:05 p.m. First pitch for Wednesday’s game is 1:05 p.m. Friday’s game against the White Sox begins at 7:05 p.m., while Saturday’s begins at 4:05 p.m. The final game of the homestand on Sunday will begin at 1:05 p.m.

TIGERS RELEASE STATEMENT REGARDING DELMON YOUNG

DETROIT - We are aware of the situation, however it is our club policy not to comment on pending legal matters. As we understand it, this is an allegation and we need to allow the legal process to take its course. It would be inappropriate for us to comment further at this time. Per a provision in the Major League Baseball Basic Agreement, any allegation that involves alcohol is referred to MLB's Employee Assistance Program.

Brandon Inge released

Today, the contract of Brandon Inge was released. The contract of Triple-A Toledo star Brad Eldred was purchased. Inge, 34, is a career .234 hitter who has played his entire 12-year career in Detroit. He hopes to continue playing elsewhere.

Inge said, "I could kind of see how things were going. But there are no hard feelings. This is my family. This is where I've been my whole career. I'll miss the guys -- I will."

He continued, "The chance to go play somewhere else might be good for me, personally."

Porcello only gets through one inning as Tigers fall to Rangers, 10-4

After 15 minutes of baseball, four runs were on the board and

Rick Porcello was just getting his first out. Four more runs came across the plate after Porcello's disastrous 46-pitch inning.

The Tigers went 1-2-3 in their half of the inning. Porcello was pulled after giving up another run in the second. He only lasted one inning, giving up eight earned runs and giving way to lefty Duane Below.

It wasn't Porcello's day today!

Meanwhile, the Ranger's starter Matt Harrison was blowing through the Tigers lineup. Harrison was pitching a perfect game through three innings, until Austin Jackson came up in the bottom of the fourth, smashing a 397 ft. home run.

Harrison then struck out Brennan Boesch, and Miguel Cabrera singled. Prince Fielder struck out on an ugly swing; Delmon Young then blasted a double off the center field wall, bringing in Cabby. Ryan Raburn also K'd.

The score would remain at 9-2 until the bottom of the eighth when Cabrera would trot around the bases, knocking a ball just over the left field fence.

The 9-4 score would soon turn into a 10-4 score, thanks to a home run off the bat of Mike Napoli, who has a dinger in each of the last five consecutive games.

After a Jhonny Peralta double in the bottom of the ninth, Brandon Inge flew out to left field to end the game, 10-4.

TIGERS VERSUS RANGERS GAME POSTPONED DUE TO RAIN

MAKEUP GAME SCHEDULED AS PART OF SPLIT DOUBLEHEADER SATURDAY AT 7:05 P.M.

DETROIT – Tonight’s scheduled game against the Texas Rangers at Comerica Park has been postponed due to rain and impending rain. The game will be made up Saturday, April 21 as the second game of a split doubleheader, which will begin with the regularly scheduled game at 1:05 p.m. and will be followed by the makeup game for tonight’s contest at 7:05 p.m.

Tickets for tonight’s game will be honored for the second game on Saturday at 7:05 p.m., no ticket exchange is necessary.

Fans unable to attend the rescheduled game may exchange their unused tickets at any time for a future regular season non-premium game scheduled to be played within 12 months from today’s date; excluding Opening Day and subject to availability.

ALCS rematch puts Tigers up against Rangers this weekend

In a rematch of the 2011 ALCS, the Tigers square off against the Texas Rangers in a 4-game series starting tonight.

With a start time of 7:05 p.m., the Tigers plan on sending lefty Adam Wilk to the mound tonight to face Japanese phenomenon Yu Darvish. Friday night's game has Matt Harrison facing Detroit's Rick Porcello. Saturday afternoon, ace Justin Verlander will pitch against Neftali Feliz. Finally, Sunday afternoon, we'll have a match-up that places Drew Smyly against Colby Lewis.

Verlander is 1-1 with a 2.13 ERA this season.

Smyly has pitched 10 major league innings -- against Tampa Bay on April 12 and against Kansas City on April 17 -- and hasn't received a decision. He's only given up one earned run, while striking out eight.

My guess would be that the Tigers split the series with the Rangers. Both clubs are incredibly good right now, and I wouldn't doubt a rematch at the level they were both at last season -- the ALCS.

Texas comes in to the series with a 10-2 record, the best in the MLB. The Tigers aren't far behind with their 9-3 record.

“ERNIE” THE PLAY RETURNS FOR A SECOND SEASON

Hit Stage Play Shares Life of beloved Hall of Fame Broadcaster “Looong Gone”, but never forgotten.

(Detroit – April 17) – Ernie, Mitch Albom’s smash hit play dedicated to Ernie Harwell, returns for its second season May 3rd at the City Theatre in Detroit, one block from Comerica Park, offering fans another season to remember “The Voice of Summer”.

Will Young, who stars as the iconic Harwell, TJ Corbett, who plays the role of The Boy, Playwright Mitch Albom, and Director Tony Caselli, will all be present, and available for one-on-one interviews.

Says Will in reprising the lead role, “I am honored to be representing Ernie Harwell, whom I admired and listened to faithfully for many years as ‘The Voice of Tigers baseball’”.

Ernie is set on Ernie Harwell’s last night at Comerica, when the Hall of Fame broadcaster is about to give a moving thank you to a grateful city. Just before he walks onto the grassy field, he encounters an unusual boy who is eager to know all about him, coaxing Harwell to give one final broadcast- the “broadcast of his life”.

Having called Ernie a friend for 25 years, playwright Albom, the hugely successful author and playwright of Tuesdays with Morrie, says,

“Ernie’s story transcends sports. It’s a story of 20th century Americana and a love affair with baseball and a childhood sweetheart. Ernie went through the depression, World War II, the segregation of sports- he also called some of the grandest moments ever witnessed on a ball field. It’s an honor to bring such a rich character to the stage- especially for so many fans who loved him.”

Ernie premiered April 28, 2011, and over 30,000 people saw the play in its inaugural season.

Tigers Complete Sweep of Boston Red Sox

It was a sunny Sunday at the ballpark as the Tigers looked to sweep the Boston Red Sox in the first series of the 2012 season.

The Tigers posted an early lead, scoring four runs in the first. The Red Sox scored

two runs of their own in the second inning off the bat of Mike Aviles. The Tigers tacked on another in the second, making the score 5-2.

Then, in the third, all of the screws came loose. Starter Max Scherzer couldn't throw strikes, and gave up hit after hit. The Sox scored five runs, and now led 7-5.

Fast-forwarding to the bottom of the fourth, the Tigers tied the game at sev

en apiece with a hit from Brennan Boesch and a fielder's choice from Miguel Cabrera.

After a quiet fifth inning, Adrian Gonzalez hit a mammoth home run to deep right field. The dinger was given up by Daniel Schlereth on his first pitch of the game.

Scoring remained halted until the ninth. The BoSox tacked on another, making the score 10-7. But, in the bottom of the inning, Cabrera blasted a no-doubter to left field, tying the game and leading us into extra innings.

After a scoreless tenth, Boston put up two well-manufactured runs in the eleventh. Delmon Young cut the lead to one after a sacrifice fly.

And finally -- after almost five hours of baseball -- Alex Avila walked to the plate with two outs in the bottom of the 11th and delivered a home run to right field that just barely sailed over the yellow line to make it 13-12 Tigers.

The Tigers complete the sweep in fine fashion; it's already their second walk-off win of the season.

They go on to face the Tampa Bay Rays in a three game series beginning on Tuesday. They continue with a weekend set in Chicago against the White Sox.
